With over twenty years of experience providing legal advice on immigration matters, David is an acknowledged leader in the field. David Bitel is and has been a member of various committees of the Law Society of NSW, including its specialist accreditation committee, the Law Council of Australia and the International Bar Association, the world body of lawyers. In 2000 he was appointed Vice Chair of Committee 14 (Migration and Nationality) of the Section on Legal Practice of the International Bar Association and a member of the executive of the IBA. In 2002 David was appointed Senior vice Chair of IBA Committee 14. He was also awarded Austcare's Paul Cullen Humanitarian Award in 2002. 

Since 1989 David has been a part time judicial member of the NSW Administrative Decisions Tribunal in its equal opportunity division (and its predecessor). He has been on the Executive of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies from 1999 to 2007 and has been advisor to many community groups notably in the Filipino, Bangladesh and Nepalese communities in NSW.
